Context/Discussion/Comments:

As of Friday night before the Passover and Sabbath, Jesus is dead and buried. On Saturday morning the tomb is guarded and sealed. Now it is Sunday morning, the third day of Jesus death and the women rise early to go and prepare the body of Jesus in that Joseph and Nicodemus did a hurried job on Friday night so as to accomplish everything they could before the Sabbath began. You will recall that Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and others watched where Joseph and Nicodemus had taken the body of Jesus. Evidently Mary Magdalene and Mary were the leaders of the group of women from Galilee who gave support to the disciples and Jesus as they were ministering in Galilee. On their way to the tomb, they wonder how they will move the stone so they can enter. But there was an earthquake that morning such that the guards shook and lost consciousness and then fled. The women arrive at the tomb and it is open. Two angels are present, one at the head and one at the foot of where Jesus laid. The angel instructs the women to tell the disciples, especially Peter, that Jesus would meet them in Galilee. So the women leave; trembling, afraid, and full of joy. They roust Peter and John telling them what they have seen. Peter and John take off running for the tomb and the women follow. Peter enters first and then John. They see everything just as the women had reported. The resurrection of Jesus is verified but they don’t yet comprehend what has happened so they go back to where they were staying, most likely in the upper room of John Mark’s house [tradition].

Consider these questions as you recall this story.

  1. What are the signs that Jesus is coming again? How will you react to His coming? With joy? With fear and trembling? Both?
  2. To whom are you running with the Good News of Jesus?
  3. Where do you go to sort things out that you fail to comprehend?

Lessons/Applications:

  1. As you faithfully go about your work of Love, seek, anticipate, and recognize His Angels [along with His Divine Word] so you may be encouraged by His clear message.
  2. Everyone needs a place where they can collect their thoughts, review events, consider God’s Word, pray, and define a strategy according to His will. For most, this defines HOME.
  3. Those most dedicated, most loyal, most devoted are most likely working humbly in the background and are women. Listen to the women in your life.

Because Christ was:

CRUCIFIED He paid the Price for ALL SIN.

DEAD/BURIED His payment was validated.

RESURRECTED Salvation was guaranteed to all who believe.
