Psalm 100

June 4, 2009

As we continue on with exhortations to praise God it is interesting to ask the basic investigative questions of who, what, where, when, why, and how.

The “who” is defined in verse 1 and is all the earth. “All the earth” includes all of nature as well as all mankind. All that lives owes their being to God for He is the Creator God.

“What” is found is verses 1, 2, and 4. We are to shout joyfully, serve, be thankful, praise, and bless His Name. We are to worship Him and love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.

“Where” is also found in verse 4. Gates and courts refer to the temple areas outside the Temple itself. This is where the people came to worship and sacrifice. This is the gathering place of those who worship God. Therefore, we praise God and thank Him when we gather together as believers to worship Him.

We do this because [“why”] He is God, He is the Creator, and we are His people [vs. 3]. We do this because the Lord God is good, loving, kind and faithful [vs. 5]. We do this “how” by serving Him with glad hearts and joyful singing [vs. 2].

Praising and worshiping God is an intimate fellowship with God our Creator for the purpose of thanking Him and glorifying His Name for calling us to serve Him and to share in His riches eternally. He has called us out of our sin [mortality] into eternal life [immortality] by grace through the righteousness of His Son, Jesus Christ. Know God’s character and accept His call.
