Psalm 83

June 4, 2009

This psalm is a prayer requesting God to become active and directly involved in the destruction of Israel’s enemies who are bonding together for one purpose, to destroy Israel and remove her from their land.

The nations mentioned were all enemies of Israel at onetime or another. However, we do not have records of such a massive alliance at one time in either Kings or Chronicles. Perhaps this psalm is also prophetic in nature. Today we see the Arab countries with their various factions uniting for the sole purpose of destroying Israel and making her disappear. Only Egypt and Jordan and perhaps Lebanon have diplomatic relations with Israel but even southern Lebanon is controlled by terrorists supported by Syria and Iran.

This prayer is real and applicable today. Peace for Israel is elusive. Lasting peace for Israel will come only when they unite as a nation and humble themselves before God and acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Then this prayer will be answered. God will take action bringing shame and disgrace to Israel’s enemies. When Christ returns, all people will realize who the true God is. He will come to reign over all people. Every knee will bow before the Lord. This prayer will be answered at Christ’s return. Halleluiah!

Just because the answer to this prayer is in the future doesn’t mean we don’t have to pray it now. This prayer is also for the present. God may not destroy our enemies but He is active protecting us from being destroyed by them. Pray for the peace of Israel. Pray that the Lord comes soon. Pray for protection. Pray for the Lord’s intervention. Pray for strength. Pray to be found faithful. God has been faithful in the past. He is faithful today. And He will be faithful in the future. Just Pray!
